Introduction

Welcome to MilkDrop.org. A site dedicated to MilkDrop and music visualisation. I am collecting and preserving MilkDrop presets and content related to creating music visualisations.

What is MilkDrop?

MilkDrop/MilkDrop2 is a music visualisation plugin for Winamp, written by Ryan Geiss, that generates real-time graphics that respond to the music being played. It uses a combination of DirectX and advanced mathematical formulas to create dynamic, flowing visual effects that move in sync with the audio. MilkDrop allows users to create and share presets, which define the visual patterns and effects that are displayed during music playback.

MilkDrop3 is a recently released standalone version of MilkDrop that brings the classic music visualisation experience to modern systems without requiring Winamp. It continues the legacy of MilkDrop by providing real-time, music-responsive visual effects while offering updated features and compatibility for contemporary platforms.

Butterchurn is a web-based MilkDrop visualisation engine that allows MilkDrop presets to be run in modern web browsers using WebGL. It brings the MilkDrop experience to the web, enabling users to enjoy music visualisations without needing Winamp or a native plugin environment.

Another update, hundreds more presets. Now all up to date until the end of 2004. Over 5,500 now. :)

Started to update the downloads section with more presets (6 months worth 700+ presets) in installer (multi language NSIS) format. More to come soon.

“Holy Cow” an update. Yes it has been nearly two years and finally this site is getting updated.

In recent months MilkDrop has been made open source and you can download it from the download section. I have been collating a list of more presets from the past years. I’ll will redo the download page in the next week with these as automatic self installers but for the moment details of them are here. There are about 1,500 more presets all in zip files.

8th October 2003

Updated the presets from last quarter July (07) to September (09) 2003 around 400 more presets this time around. So over 3,600 now. Some lovely ones in there too to show off the new features of version 1.04.

28th September 2003

Finally completed a new website. Not too much added at the moment mainly fixed links and cleaned up the old site.

Get ready for more updates in the coming weeks. Hopefully with time permitting I will be adding in the coming days/weeks a bumper batch of presets and the preset authoring documentation should be getting a much needed revamp.

Hopefully also yet another new version of MilkDrop should be out soon fixing some bugs and hopefully added a few new fancy features too. As always watch this space.
